Description In industry, Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) is the organizational process that enables the managing of the product lengthwise the entire lifecycle: from the hull to the hell. The of PLM is to provide a backbone for OEMs companies, which supports people, data, procedures and business systems related to the product information, , as well as their primary tiers. Among several aims of PLM there are the reduction of Time To Market (TTM) and prototyping costs, the improvement of product quality and reliability, the minimization of wastes, the maximization of the cooperation among companies within the supply chain, and much more.
Within this framework, the development of manufacturing work cycles and tools, including the adaptation of product features and functional requirements is a fundamental step in the product development phase. The purpose of the thesis is focused on this step, where manufacturing companies re-use their existing know-how to make the production quality and costs compliant with available facilities (in-door, or available from tiers). In particular, the thesis will address a case-study firm in the field of car body prototypes, with the main aim to capture the manufacturing engineers know-how and make it available within the product development step dedicated to the development of manufacturing work cycles and tools, throughout the customization of a commercial PLM Platform.
