Description Forthcoming 5G networks will be based on Network Function Virtualization (NFV) to provide a new level of flexibility and programmability of the network services. The thesis will consider specifically distributed Virtual Network Functions which are instantiated on different nodes in the network in order to improve the performance and scalability of the network services. Motivating examples of such scenarios are Distributed Deny of Service Detection (DDoSD) schemes and the new 5G testbed that will be operating at Politecnico starting from spring 2019.
The thesis will implement a solution based on programmable data planes using P4 programming model (https://p4.org/) which represent nowadays the most advanced technology to support Software Defined Networking (SDN).
