Description In the context of the research activities of the Internet Media Group in collaboration with the PIC4SeR center (https://pic4ser.polito.it), we are looking for master thesis students interested in studying and implementing systems that can efficiently handle multimedia data produced by drones and rovers. It is expected mainly to focus on images acquired by drones. Such images might represent visible light (RGB images) or also other wavelengths using multispectral/hyperspectral cameras. Algorithms for efficient processing and storage will be developed, as well as to identify interesting areas in the image that might need further elaboration. Other types of information could include data coming from sensors of a typical smartphone device, including wireless signal strength.
It is also possible to experiment in real scenarios with actual robots. The activity can be carried out without being physically present on a day-to-day basis at the Politecnico.
