Description The student will face the study of some stochastic processes (Markov chains or diffusions) used as model of diverse phenomena, mostly (but not only) related to biology.
These are stochastic models that describe the amounts of identical individuals (molecules, in the language inspired by chemistry) belonging to different groups (chemical species) and that interact according to a reaction graph. The topic of the thesis could be of probabilistic flavour (graphical conditions for explosions, positive recurrence, stationary distributions, approximations...) or more statistically oriented, like estimation methods or data analysis for data that can be modelled as a reaction network.
Required skills Basics dynamical systems.
Probability and stochastic processes.
Statistics (if a statistical slant is chosen).
