Thesis type EXPERIMENTAL, IN LAB
Description Cement-bentonite mixtures are commonly used in the construction of plastic cut-off walls, realised in situ to contain within restricted areas the water pollution due to previous anthropogenic activities. Such barriers must comply with certain design criteria in terms of performance. The thesis is part of a research project aimed at assessing in the laboratory the mechanical (deformability and resistance) and hydraulic behaviour of cement-bentonite mixtures. The candidate will contribute to the study by participating in the execution of oedometer compression tests, permeability tests and triaxial tests. The effects of maturation time, mixture composition and of the contact with a hydrocarbon during the maturation process will be explored. In addition to participating in the performance of the tests, the candidate will be required to interpret them and contextualize them with respect to the state of the art. The duration of the thesis is of about 6 months.
