Robotic systems for infrastructure inspection and maintenance

keywords INFRASTRUCTURE, INSPECTION, ROBOT, ROBOTICS

Research Groups 14-Meccatronica e servosistemi

Thesis type THEORETICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL

Description Inspection and maintenance of infrastructures frequently requires access to areas that are difficult to reach or that can be reached only exposing themselves to even serious dangers. The use of robotic devices can allow remote access to infrastructures, measuring parameters of interest in order to detect the health of the infrastructure and perform maintenance operations. In this context, theses are assigned for the study of systems for the inspection / maintenance of gas / oil pipelines, nuclear plants or areas with the presence of asbestos. The theses concern the study and modeling of components, of robots with special architecture as well as of maintenance tools. Other thesis can deal about architectures based on industrial robots, including mobile ones, can be studied for operations in environments that are dangerous for humans but are accessible with relative ease. It is possible to carry out theses involving small groups of students in parallel.

Required skills Applied mechanics, use of Matlab / Simulink. It is useful to have taken the Mechatronics and / or Robotic Devices and systems exam
