Description Small islands represent the litmus test of the continent energy transition. Providing electricity on non-interconnected islands is a major challenge, compounded by the high cost of transporting fossil fuels and the infeasibility of extending grid connections. Currently, diesel power plants provide nearly all of the electricity demand in these areas, and the installation of renewable energy systems is considered a practical solution to stimulate the energy transition and self-sufficiency of these communities. This thesis work determines the technical potential of wind and photovoltaic renewable energy sources on Italian minor islands. The key objective consists in the development of a WebGIS platform for the analysis of constraints and availability of renewable energy sources.
