Description Mountain glaciers are an extremely sensitive and important proxies of climate change; the latter not only defined as variation of the average values ​​of climatic variables but also the more subtle, but no less important, changes in the statistical structure (moments, space-time correlation, etc.) of the variables themselves. At the same time, glaciers behave as a dynamical system extremely rich in peculiar processes, exhibiting non-linearities, threshold processes, bistability, etc.. This dynamical richness, combined with the changing climate forcings, makes glaciers very crucial sentinels of climate change as well as fascinating from a speculative point of view.
The thesis aims to investigate these topics by addressing them from a modeling point of view, using both analytical and numerical tools. In particular, the Alpine glaciers will be focused, for which many historical data of both meteorological and morphological type are available.
