Description Ultra-wideband (UWB) is an emerging radio communication technology for short-range, high-bandwidth communication applied widely in distance estimation, localization and tracking. It use low power pulses to transmit information with a large frequency bandwidth (>500 MHz) and does not need a carrier wave, which results in high immunity to multipath fading. By measuring features such as time of flight (ToF), UWB can facilitate secure ranging from which is possible to apply several positioning strategies. Devices that are equipped with UWB include UAVs, industrial sensors, autonomous robots and vehicles, access tokens, wearable electronics, and many more.
New generation smartphones are also equipped with UWB modules mainly used with the purpose of “nearby features” and proximity finding.
This thesis proposal aims to exploit the new generation mobile to perform ranging and positioning, in particular analyzing the capabilities of data acquisition using android API. Moreover, it aims to evaluate the possible integration between UWB and GNSS chipsets.

Required skills GEOMATICS, PYTHON, ANDROID STUDIO, WEB PLATFORM
Mandatory: Programming in Matlab or Python for data analysis.
Preferable: Android API basic knowledge, Knowledge about Positioning.
