Visualization of the Values of the Sensors Mounted on a Model Aircraft Using Innovative Systems

Description The PhotoNext project consists in retrieving and processing information coming from a set of Fiber Bragg Gratings (FBGs) sensors mounted on an aircraft model so that its status can be visualized simply and immediately through a heat-mapped 3D model. It is carried out in collaboration with the Department of Control and Computer Engineering (DAUIN) and the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (DIMEAS) of the Politecnico di Torino, as a part of the Inter-Departmental Center for Photonic technologies.
The project has already been partially implemented: at the moment, among the various applications that are part of the project, the following have been developed:
- a middleware application, able to receive and send sensor values to a cloud database;
- an application for Desktop PC or Hololens called Viewer, able to display these data as graphs or via a heat-mapped 3D model.
The thesis aims to improve one or more parts of the system to take it to a new level. For its entire duration, the thesis student will be followed by dr. Antonio Marceddu and supervised by prof. Bartolomeo Montrucchio. Through it, the student is expected to improve its programming skill and his/her ability to work on medium complexity projects.
