Description A recently-born trend and keyword in the software community, metaverse will be a collection of new technologies that include AI, virtual reality, mixed reality, augmented reality, Blockchain and cryptocurrency.

Applications to be delivered in the metaverse are expected to be significantly different than traditional desktop, mobile or web applications. This new software domain will pose huge challenges on software developers, and on the way software will have to be written, deployed, verified and validated, and maintained.

The objective of the thesis is to explore the current academic and industrial state of the art, to analyze the main software engineering challenges in the development of applications and services for the metaverse.

The thesis will include the application of concepts (e.g., for software testing) on an existing virtual reality application.

Required skills Object-oriented programming (Java, C#), virtual-reality development (optional)
