Description Computer vision technologies, such as optical motion magnification, are becoming more important in the context of structural health monitoring. The possibility of including cameras on mobile systems such as drones has increased the interest of the scientific community in these systems.
The aim of the thesis is the definition of a methodology for the compensation of the movements of the camera used to carry out structural dynamics measurements. Specifically, starting from measures to quantify the vibrations on the camera acquired using inertial sensors and stationary photogrammetric targets, the candidate will have to define a procedure to remove the rigid motion of the camera from the recorded frames and determine the real dynamic response of the structure under study. The work includes an evaluation of the system in the laboratory (with predefined and known boundary conditions) and the possibility of testing the system developed in situ on large structures such as bridges and wind turbines existing around the campus of the University of Massachusetts Lowell.
