Synthetic seismic/structural risk indexes via data analysis and Artificial Intelligence

keywords SEISMIC RISK AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

Reference persons BERNARDINO CHIAIA, CECILIA SURACE

External reference persons Ing. Marco Civera (marco.civera@polito.it)

Research Groups GRUPPO ARISK

Thesis type SPERIMENTAL

Description The thesis project is part of the collaboration between the technological startup Arisk, active in servicing and consulting for public operators and private customers, and several disciplinary fields of the Polytechnic of Turin, specialized in the assessment of flood, structural, seismic and cybersecurity risks.
Specifically, the thesis work will be divided into three phases. In the first one, the student will carry out an analysis, on a regional scale, of the site's seismic hazard on the basis of INGV maps. In the second phase, having selected the case studies of interest, a detailed study of individual buildings will be carried out (with Finite Element Analysis), for the determination of quantitative indices (e.g. PAM and IS-V as defined by the Italian NTC 2018 and Ministerial Decree 65/2017). Finally, these indices will be integrated into a multi-risk score, to be supplied as input to an Artificial Intelligence system for predictive catastrophic analysis. This last part will be carried out in collaboration with academic experts of the Polytechnic and industrial experts of Arisk, aiming at the development of a commercial software.

Required skills good skills in seismic and structural engineering, basic knowledge of FEM modelling
