Thesis type SIMULATION

Description This thesis work is aimed at the development and simulation of an industrial-scale plant for bio-based acetic acid production. Bio-based products are of great importance in reducing environmental impact by limiting the extraction of fossil fuels. Some bacteria are able to produce acetic acid from carbon dioxide and hydrogen. The downstream phase of the plant is the most costly. This thesis aims to simulate on Aspen Plus the purification of acetic acid from fermentation broth using innovative techniques and process intensification. The scale up of the bioreactor will be carried out from a present bioreactor in the department. Environmental impacts of the process will be evaluated and efficient use of chemicals and energy will be maximized.

Required skills Aspen Plus, Matlab
