Description International students activities at VTT -Finland
Work within HEU 5G-TIMBER project https://www.5g-timber.eu/
The student should collaborate with VTT ProperTune Soft Condensed Materials team to numerically analyze the hygro-mechanical performance of one or more structural components of a wooden modular house in different phases of their service life (after manufacturing, during transportation, during construction and in service conditions). Focused elements will be LVL (Laminate Veneer Lumbers), massive wood and decking boards used in modular houses.
MSc thesis work
The topic should be planned in collaboration with the official supervisor of the student and aimed to write at least one scientific paper in collaboration with VTT.
A possible case-study could be the LVL integrated with a transparent wood layer
Requirements
Master studies in civil, mechanical, or materials engineering
Basic knowledge of the finite element method (FEM)
Stage at VTT (4-6 months)
Possible starting: January 2024
The student must have own funds (Erasmus, university grant, etc.) for his/her stage in Finland
VTT will offer the office facilities, the research background and the instructor (no accomodation)
Part of the MSc thesis work will be carried out in own university
