STRIVING FOR CLIMATE NEUTRALITY FOR THE EUROPEAN CITIES: DEVELOPING MODELS AND DESIGN TOOLS TO SUPPORT THE POLICY DECISION-MAKING PROCESS TOWARD NETZERO EMISSION OF CO2

Reference persons ETTORE FRANCESCO BOMPARD

Description The context: Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions are playing a crucial role in climate change and must be limited consistently in the very next future. European Commission launched a call and selected cities for the Mission “100 climate-neutral cities by 2030 - by and for the citizens” for developing pilot actions to zero or at least relevantly reduce GHG emissions by 2030. The Municipality of Turin has been selected within those cities.
The problem: to assure (or at least target) Climate Neutrality ( zero CO2eq emissions) by 2030 implementing a proper set of multi-stakeholder actions (municipalities, utilities, transportation companies, citizens, ...) on the city and to assess their impacts in terms of the reduction in GHG, considering investment costs and social impacts.
The thesis activity: filling out catalogues of actions for the curtailment of GHG emission in various sectors (transport, building, energy management, renewable energy installation), modelling each action (electrification of public transportation, PV installation, heat pumps installation, tree planting, ...) in terms of their effect and CO2eq production/reduction. Make these models available in a library that can be integrated the IT energy platforms available at EST@energycenter to make them assessable through web interfaces and decision theatre to the relevant stakeholders.
