Descrizione This proposed Master's thesis seeks to leverage Spray Freeze-Drying (SFD) for the creation of inhalable microparticles. Inhalation as a drug delivery method offers distinct advantages over conventional routes, ensuring precise delivery to the intended target, thereby reducing degradation and potential side effects. SFD represents a state-of-the-art technology with immense potential for formulating inhalable drugs. While the concept of utilizing inhalable microparticles for drug delivery holds considerable promise, it is crucial to underscore the imperative need for thorough research in this domain. The thesis will not only concentrate on the production of these engineered microparticles but will also encompass their comprehensive characterization, ensuring accuracy and predictability in drug delivery. These inhalable microparticles will be employed for delivering therapeutic biomolecules, such as proteins, peptides, and monoclonal antibodies. Such drug delivery systems hold significant potential in the fields of medicine and pharmaceuticals, as they offer efficient, targeted, and patient-friendly treatment options. Despite the numerous advantages, producing inhalable microparticles through SFD presents a formidable challenge. One of the primary obstacles addressed by this research is the issues related to storage and stability of inhalable microparticles. Resolving this challenge is vital to ensuring the sustained viability of inhalation as a drug delivery method. This thesis will involve hands-on laboratory work, providing students with the opportunity to delve into the production and characterization of inhalable microparticles. It fosters a strong commitment to detail and problem-solving, all while igniting a passion for scientific exploration. Our laboratory will offer students valuable practical experience with a wide array of equipment and techniques.
