Thesis type DATA ANALYSIS, EXPERIMENTAL

Description In the framework of FUTURE: Fiber-Optic Sensing and UAV-Platform Techniques for Innovative Mineral Exploration, a cooperative project in the ERAMIN framework a unique seismic dataset was acquired at South Deep mine in South Africa (one of the deepest mine in the world) using both surface based and tunnel measurements. A large dataset is available and is being processed for contributing to the knowledge about the subsurface ahead the actual mine extension. This project consists of processing the recorded seismic to build a reliable subsurface model of the gold mine in collaboration with the research groups in Uppsala University (Sweden) and Wits University (South Africa). The modelling will be performed using both active and passive seismic data using a semi-automatic processing technique and a Machine Learning algorithm.

Required skills Good knowledge of geophysics, coding skills MATLAB/Python, high team-work ability, basic knowledge of Machine Learning algorithms.
