Evaluation of the potential of hydrogen use in hard-to-abate Irish industries and taxonomy for industrial cluster decarbonization.

Reference persons PIERLUIGI LEONE

Description Energy consumption in the industrial sector is responsible for more the 30% of GHG emissions of which about 60% comes from the so-called "hard-to-abate" industries. Many industrial processes such as high temperature heat generation can be hardly decarbonized by using green electricity. On the other hand, green gases such as hydrogen are the among the limited options for the decarbonization of these processes.
This work will have following main objectives:
- Identification and mapping of all Irish hard-to-abate industries including iron and steel, glass, ceramics, cement paper and lime plants based on ETS database
- Assessment of energy consumption and CO2 emissions by plant
- Identifications and taxonomy of industrial cluster decarbonization
- Evaluation of hydrogen use potential by industrial clusters

Good knowledge of Q-GIS or willingness to learn, very good level of English, knowledge of Python programming language is appreciable but not mandatory, autonomy and proactive attitude.
