Description The Institute of System Dynamics and Control (SR) works on the further development and application of advanced control methods in order to improve the performance, energy efficiency, safety and comfort of complex control systems. The overarching goals of the institute are innovative solutions for space robots and systems, fixed-wing aircraft, road and rail vehicles and technology transfer.
Motion simulators for flight and driving simulation require the simulated maneuvers to be reproduced as realistically as possible. Actuated seating surfaces in so-called G-seats can further improve the impression of movement created by the movements of the simulator. With the help of flaps attached under the seat cushions, pressure is exerted on the occupants to create the feeling of acceleration.
As part of the work an existing force cueing algorithm and an existing hardware prototype for G-seat actuators is further developed in the Modelica modeling language. The force cueing algorithm calculates suitable actuator movements from the accelerations of a simulated vehicle to create an impression of movement that is as realistic as possible. Various requirements are placed on the algorithm. For example, the number and installation position of the actuators used should be freely parameterizable.
Additionally, a subject study on the DLR Robotic Motion Simulator to evaluate the benefits of the developed force cueing algorithm is part of the thesis.
