Description This thesis aims to analyze the relationship between quality and sustainability certifications obtained by companies in the secondary agri-food sector and their economic and financial situation. Starting from a review of the existing literature on the benefits and challenges of certifications in the agri-food sector, the PRISMA method will be used to select the most relevant publications and studies. The aim is to identify the main theories and empirical data related to the impact of certifications on company competitiveness and economic sustainability.
Subsequently, a research on company certifications will be conducted using the database of ACCREDIA, the Italian accreditation body, to identify which companies are certified and which types of certifications (e.g. ISO 9001, ISO 14001, etc.) they have obtained. These data will be integrated with a quantitative analysis, using the AIDA database to examine the balance sheet data of certified and non-certified companies operating in the secondary agri-food sector in Italy.
The analysis will allow to compare the economic and financial performance of companies based on the possession of certifications, investigating correlations with indicators such as profitability, capital strength, and long-term growth. The results of the thesis will provide an in-depth understanding of the importance of quality and sustainability certifications and will contribute to the definition of business development strategies in the context of the secondary agri-food sector.
