Description This thesis work focuses on the characterization of the mental effort required to operate generic user interfaces. Data describing user’s cognitive load will be collected by recording, e.g., eye and brain activity by means of consumer cameras and EEG monitoring headsets. Machine learning algorithms will be then designed in order to build a feature-based classifier able to estimate the user’s memory workload in the execution of certain tasks. Information obtained will be exploited to create user interfaces able to adapt to the particular usage conditions by changing their complexity or the available interaction means.
