Thesis type MODELING AND DATA ANALYSIS
Description The water footprint indicator is a novel metric to quantify the use of freshwater resources, whose major use occurs in agriculture. Agricultural production requires large volumes of green (soil moisture) and blue (surface and ground-) water resources. Quantifying such volumes requires the modelling of soil water balance and of crop growth, considering hydroclimatic and other variables. The quantification of water footprint can be the core of several studies addressing different problems, from the variability of hydroclimatic forcings to the yield forecast, from the role of irrigation to the closure of yield gaps, from the sustainability to the optimal management of water resources.
