Strain and temperature optical sensors based on fiber optics for mechanics and avionics applications

Description Fiber optics sensors present many advantages with respect to traditional electric sensors in terms of electromagnetic immunity, possibility to operate in harsh environments and place the interrogation system in remote and safe sites. Precision achievable with fiber optics sensors is comparable if not superior to traditional sensors. This thesis focuses on the study of specific applications of fiber optics sensors in the fields of mechanics and avionics, fields in which during the last years an ever growing interests is rising towards these technologies especially aiming at diagnostics and prognostics applications.
