Description Many polysaccharides are biosynthesized in the form of crystalline microfibrils having a non-centrosymmetric and polar structure which makes them attractive building blocks for electro-active devices. Yet, little is known about the intrinsic electro-mechanical features of such materials.
The goal of this master project will be to investigate the electromechanical behavior of several biological samples combining structural analysis (electron microscopy and WAXS), electrical measurements (broadband dielectric spectroscopy, set-up for direct and converse piezoelectric effect), and physical chemistry to tune the material architecture.
The work will be conducted in the Polymer Materials Engineering Laboratory (IMP) of the University of Lyon1, in Lyon, France.

Notes The project can start form early 2020 and will last for around 6 months, with a grant of 565 € per month. It can also be supplemented with an Erasmus+ grant for foreign students.
