Design and development of luxury items through 3D printing (stereolithography)

keywords CERAMICS, LUXURY, STEREOLITOGRAPHY

Reference persons PAOLA PALMERO

Thesis type EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN

Description The luxury sector is still under development for what concerns ceramic materials. In fact, traditional forming technologies of this class of materials limit the design and prototyping to extremely simple and conventional geometries. Today these limits can be overcome thanks to 3D printing, and in particular to stereolithography specific for engineering ceramics.
The candidate will develop the design of small luxury items (from jewelery, watchmaking, to other design items), adapting the design to the physical and mechanical characteristics of the ceramic materials (which will essentially be made of alumina or zirconia). The feasibility of the design will be verified through its 3D printing via stereolithography, in order to analyze the potential and the limits of this technique, and to be able to adapt the project to 3D innovation.

Required skills Materiali ceramici, progettazione e design tramite autoCAD o software similari
