Descrizione The encapsulation of therapeutic and contrast agents into nanoparticles has already had substantial impact in clinical medicine. Nanoparticles have been shown to modulate the biodistribution, organ specific accumulation, and circulation half-life of the original encapsulated agents providing enhanced therapeutic and imaging performance while limiting off-target effects.
The "Nano-Bio System Research Laboratory" at Yonsei University (Wonju, South Korea) is developing and experimentally testing polymeric nanoparticles with superior accumulation into tumour tissues, therefore achieving a more effective and localized delivery of anti-cancer drugs.
In this thesis, modelling techniques spanning from atomistic to continuum scales will be employed to predict the drug delivery capabilities of polymeric nanoparticles. The activity will involve a strong interaction with the experimentalist at Yonsei University. The target will be a mechanistic understanding of drug transport through polymeric nanoparticles (i.e. nanocarriers), to provide simulation-driven guidelines for controlling the delivery rate of anti-cancer drugs employed in multimodal therapies (e.g. chemotherapy + immunotherapy + phototherapy).

Conoscenze richieste Proficiency in programming language (e.g. Matlab, Python) and thermodynamics is desirable. The candidate is expected to have significant attitude/curiosity towards modelling, especially related to nanoscale transport phenomena. We do expect a strong will and attitude to collaborate and interact with experimentalists as well as with experts on atomistic simulations. Preferential communication language will be English.
The period abroad will last from 1 to 3 months at Yonsei University (Wonju, South Korea). A preliminary training of 3 months at Politecnico di Torino will be done, to become confident with the computational tools required for the thesis activities.
