Descrizione RISC-V open source ISA is gathering around itself an increasing interest in the field of research but also in the industrial world. In particular, the development of a platform based on RISC-V allows to experiment hardware techniques that are not only safety-oriented, but also security-oriented, within the framework of the design paradigm known as security-by-design.
The purpose of the thesis is to design and implement CNL_RISC-V, a microcontroller compatible with the RISC-V ISA, similar to Pulpino, which is then able to protect itself against code redirection attacks, memory corruption problems, and physical information leakage, as well as hosting security modules such as Physically Unclonable Functions (PUF) and Cryptographically-Secure Random Number Generators (CSRNG) on board.
The candidate will therefore have to operate mainly with one of the known hardware description languages (VHDL, Verilog, SystemVerilog, …) and will have to build a software toolchain around the design, allowing its use.
