RESIDUAL STRESS in THERMOSTRUCTURAL SIMULATION of ENGINE COMPONENTS

Reference persons CRISTIANA DELPRETE, CARLO ROSSO

Thesis type ANALYTICAL AND NUMERICAL, MODELING AND SIMULATION

Description For an effective design and optimization of engine components such as cylinder head and cylinder block, residual stresses deriving from the fusion process must be taken into account during the structural numerical FE validation. The problem implies both physical aspects of non-linearity (in general the component works in the plastic field) and numerical aspects (to introduce the residual stress field as an initial condition of the thermo-structural simulation, or to superimpose it on the final average tension, or add it later in the fatigue calculation, ....). The thesis aim is the development of an adequate FE simulation methodology of the component (to be defined in collaboration with the interested companies).
