Production planning and control for Additive Manufacturing (3D printing)

Description 3D printing has been the most disruptive digital technology of Industry 4.0 capable of disrupting traditional manufacturing paradigms. Additive Manufacturing (AM) is a manufacturing technique that, through different technologies, obtains products from the generation and subsequent addition of successive layers of material. This is a sharp reversal from conventional manufacturing, which starts with works by subtracting materials from the solid (e.g., milling, turning). Due to its special characteristics, production planning and control need to be updated and adapted to this new technology. This thesis aims to: 1) critically analyze the state of the art in this field, 2) analyze a real/realistic manufacturing system characterized by AM technology, 3) develop new methods for production planning and control in such system.
