Description Mediterranean countries such as Italy are characterized by a territory at high seismic risk both in terms of intensity and frequency and in terms of the damage caused to building stock and vulnerability. Moreover, in European countries themselves, buildings are responsible for about 36 percent of carbon emissions related to fossil fuels, especially in residential buildings from the period 1945-1975, which in Italy, for example, account for 65 percent of the total building stock, a significant amount of thermal energy is lost through the envelope.
In this scenario, considering both the EU target of reducing energy consumption, the cumulative climate emergency, and the need to reduce the seismic risk of the building stock, the seismic-energy retrofit coupling of existing buildings is an urgent issue.
This thesis proposal is devoted to the development of new solutions as integrated low-impact techniques for seismic-energy retrofit. Starting from a real case (building or structural wall element), it is intended to validate a structural model to test different types of exoskeletons useful for seismic retrofit and thus reducing seismic vulnerability. Such a structural exoskeleton is also intended as a support for the application of panels or layers of material useful for seismic retrofitting.

Required skills Finite element modelling, structural analysis
