Description Project Overview :
This project proposes the development of advanced security techniques for a 16x16 pixel thermal sensor integrated with a microcontroller. This combination enables internal execution of complex algorithms, potentially containing sensitive customer data. The project aims to safeguard this data by encrypting both the algorithms and sensitive information within the sensor itself.

The candidate will work closely with a team of experts to:
- Cryptographic algorithm development: Design and implement efficient cryptographic algorithms to protect sensitive data.
- Integration of cryptography into the sensor: Modify the sensor architecture to include encryption and key management.
- Evaluation and testing: Test the security of the encrypted sensor and verify its impact on performance.

Thesis candidate Responsibilities
- Design Analysis and Documentation: Conduct a thorough review of the implemented security design specifications. Develop comprehensive documentation detailing the proposed design, ensuring clarity and completeness.
- RTL Design Verification and Validation: Create and execute simulation testbenches to achieve comprehensive functional coverage of the intellectual property (IP). Perform post-synthesis and post-layout simulations with back-annotation to verify design integrity after implementation.
- Security Evaluation: Design and conduct test procedures to assess the effectiveness of the implemented cryptographic solutions against potential security threats.
- Hardware Testing: (Optional, if applicable) Participate in post-silicon laboratory testing and device evaluation to validate the implemented security features in real-world hardware.

Required skills Required skills: Digital Design basics. VHDL or Verilog language. C and/or Python programming.
Desired Skills: Synthesis and place and route flows. Basics of cryptography and security.

Notes Thesis in collaboration with a R&D group of ST Microelectronics, located in the Milan area. The work can be carried out partially remotely, and economic compensation is foreseen.
