Description An emerging trend in the field of gaming and entertainment is to include physical elements such as robots within the game environment. A mixed-reality robotic gaming platform is currently being developed. It features a virtual playground that is projected on the floor, on which both human and robot players can move around and interact. Robot players are controlled by the game's AI itself, which is implemented in Unity. The scope of this thesis is to study the design, dynamics and interactions of games that exploit the fact one or more robots are present within the gaming environment. The games should stimulate and engage the users and encourage physical movement. The thesis should explore what are the possibilities of robotic gaming, and how robots can improve the gaming experience with respect to classic videogames. It should also explore what kinds of roles the robot can take in the game (e.g. opponent, companion, tool, etc). The student is expected to develop one or more games that use the aforementioned platform by working with robotic toys like the Sphero ball or Parrot’s mini drones (e.g., the Jumping Race), as well as with humanoid robots like the Aldebaran’s Nao.
