Thesis type RESEARCH

Description This thesis is aimed to develop an intelligent module able to automatically select the best interface (i.e., more robust, more intuitive, etc.) based on the actual operations to be performed in a multimodal interaction environment (i.e., accepting diverse kinds of inputs, like hand and body gestures, voice commands, etc.). The objective is to ease the task of interacting with complex (and possibly unknown) software and hardware systems. The intelligent module will take as input a description of operations to be performed (expressed in natural language) as well as a list of commands available for the various interaction modalities, and will compute a command-to-operation mapping based on information regarding, e.g., robustness of command recognition, activation speed, associated mental effort, etc. The system could be tested in scenarios involving, among others, the control of a number of diverse robotic platforms.
