Economic and environmental positive externalities of Ground Source Heat Pumps
Reference persons ALESSANDRO CASASSO, RAJANDREA SETHI
Description Ground Source Heat Pumps (GSHPs) have been considered by a large number of studies as the least carbon-intensive technology for heating and cooling of buildings. By contrast, scarce consideration has been given by energy and environmental policies, also because the positive externalities of GSHPs are little known. We propose a MS thesis on the assessment of the positive externalities of the large-scale implementation of GSHPs, particularly in urban areas. The reduction of pollutant emissions, of greenhouse gases, and of the dependence on fossil fuels will be compared with available analyses on the economic return. This work will be carried out in the framework of the project GRETA (near-surface Geothermal REsources in the Territory of the Alpine space), funded by the EU program Alpine Space.
