Description The thesis will focus on the environmental fate of herbicides used in agriculture, how they spread in the subsoil, and how new engineered approaches (in particular, the use of nano-formulations) can control and reduce their toxicity and/or dispersion in the environment. The thesis includes experimental work related to transport of herbicides in porous media and to their efficacy in greenhouse, in collaboration with the Agronomy department (DISAFA) of the University of Torino. Numerical modeling of the data (transport simulation in porous media) can also be envisioned.
Required skills Basic background on transport phenomena in porous media; it can be helpful (but not strictly necessary) a basic experience in the lab iand/or in the use of mathematical models
