Descrizione Goals: Study and implement a new scheduler strategy for Linux OS based on hardware monitoring.
Description:
Operating systems schedulers rely on a small amount of information to take decisions about which process must be granted execution time. Almost all approaches do not include in such information list microprocessor architectural information that may be differ from process to process. At the same time, those data could help better distinguish among processes, e.g., processes that requires a lot of data transfers to the one with less data requirements. The work will focus on analyzing and proposing a new scheduler algorithm that includes hardware monitoring data to take decisions.
Learned Outcomes: Deep knowledge of (embedded) Operating Systems and Scheduling Algorithms.
Conoscenze richieste Basic Microprocessor Architectures, C programming, Operating Systems concepts and Algorithms knowledge
Note Possibility to spend half of the Thesis on the École Central de Lyon.
