Synopsis: The course will present how the digital transformation (Industry 4.0) may happen in the process industry, covering core technologies and impacts with a multi-disciplinary approach at the cross-point between process engineering, information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT).
Course contents
On a technical level the course will offer an overview of the core technologies involved in the digital transformation in general: networks, protocols, cryptography, block-chains, first-principle modeling and data-driven models.
On a non-technical level we’ll try to extrapolate the impacts on legal, organizations, and business models.
On a practical level, we’ll cover the available commercial and open source tools and technologies, and try to decode the marketese: cloud, big data, Artificial Intelligence ...
Applications and case studies will focus on the process industries. Additionally and based on the attendees interests, skills and availability we can also try a workshop on the digital transformation of an entire industrial value-chain to be defined together.
The course will be held in English unless all attendees are fluent in Italian.
The teacher will be Paolo Greppi (degree in Chemical Engineering @polito 1995, mixed IT / process engineering professional background, founder and technical director simevo s.r.l. paolo.greppi@simevo.com).
The course will start in online learning mode.
The first unit will be on Tuesday 2020-04-07 at 14:00 in the Virtual Classroom.
First thing we will define the course language and adapt the schedule based on the attendees availability. The tentative calendar envisages a total of 16 reduced-length units. Each unit lasts 1:15 split in two half-hour sessions with a 5 minutes break in between and 10 minutes Q&A at the end.
