The Electrical Engineering program is designed to train a professional figure in general industrial engineering, with a specific specialization on electrical components and systems.
Starting from a basic cross curricular training, the program provides a specific solid preparation on the fundamentals of electrical engineering, electrical machines, electromechanical applications, electric operations, power electronics, electrical measurements, electrical safety and electrical systems.
The program highlights methodological and operational aspects that allow graduates to enter the field of electrical engineering with an adequate expertise and the ability to professionally engage with other technical sectors of industrial and IT engineering, with a knowledge of the technical language and a mastery of the basic concepts. As related statistics show, the cultural and methodological skills acquired by graduates will guarantee their swift employment or their continuation of studies, with an adequate preparation.
The program is unique and is designed to create a professional who is able to understand the impact of engineering solutions applied to electricity in the current environment, hence providing the cognitive tools needed to be continuously updated and actively part of the technological innovation process.
The program is organized into interconnected areas of study:
- The basic scientific area: containing the scientific foundations and the methodological and operational aspects of mathematics and the base sciences (physics and chemistry) found in engineering. Its courses are placed in the first half of the program (first year and first semester of the second year). In the second year there is also an addition on the subject of “complex analysis”, which is essential for the subsequent treatment of much of the content in the electric subject domain.
- The basic engineering area: with contents typical of industrial engineering that allows you to identify, formulate and solve problems using up-to-date methods, techniques and tools. Knowledge and skills are provided in industrial technical design, in science and technology of materials, structural mechanics, and machine mechanics. All courses are in the second year.
- A specific set of modules that characterize electrical engineering and related subjects. The electrical engineering base area is treated more broadly compared to other industrial engineering programs. Dedicated modules cover topics concerning problems peculiar to electrical engineering (components, equipment and systems). The related subject area treats statistical concepts and topics related to power electronics, automation, and the thermal sector (applied thermodynamics and heat transfer) that are often applied in electrical engineering. Courses are on the second and third year.
- Further training courses entail basic IT preparation. Within the study options offered by the university, students may also select further courses to complete and deepen their preparation, in economic subjects, humanities, on emerging themes in electrical engineering or other engineering sectors. To obtain the degree title a certification of proficiency in English is also required (IELTS score equal or greater than 5 or equivalent certification). The final examination is based on a work assignment completed independently by the student, with a final report.

|Freelance consultant (by passing the State Exam in Section B after graduation)||JOB ROLES:
A graduate in Electrical Engineering that has passed the required State exam and has registered in the Part B list of the Association of Engineers may work within corporations, companies, private and public institutions or as freelance consultant. Registration with the professional Association allows the graduate to sign projects or verification documents and to take responsibility for their content.
The characteristics of the engineering profession are indicated in the Presidential Decree n. 328 dated 5 June 2001, "Changes and additions to the regulations of the requirements for admission to the State examination and related tests for the practice of certain professions, as well as the regulations of the relevant jurisdictions", published in the ordinary supplement to the "Gazzetta Ufficiale" (Official Gazette), No. 190 dated 17 August 2001 - General series, mainly for the "Electrical engineering " sector. In particular, the electrical engineer graduate is preferably placed in the "industrial engineering" sector.
SKILLS RELATED TO THE ROLE:
The skills are listed in Art. 46 paragraph 3 of Presidential Decree No. 5 June 2001. 328 and include:
- the activities based on the application of science, aimed at the contribution and cooperation in design, construction supervision, evaluation and testing of machines and systems, including public works;
- the direct measurement, with instrumentation, of technical parameters from machinery and equipment;
- activities involving the use of standardized methodologies, such as the design, management and testing of individual part or components of machines, plants and systems as well as systems and processes of the simple and repetitive sort.
The prevailing skills relate to the application of the principles of safety and of design with reference to costs, to knowledge of the characteristics of components and systems, to the ability to write technical documents, measurement estimates and cost estimates, to the ability to perform evaluations, calculations and measurements, to the ability to prepare expert reports, communicate with clients, with technical operators and with public institutions.
The professional opportunities for an electrical engineer are plenty and very diversified. As part of a company, or in a private or public institution, the electrical engineer can carry out different types of activities in the electrical system sector and in industrial automation.
