For the academic year 2015/2016,
students of Engineering courses,
except for the degree course in Technology and
International Business, can select from a list an exam in order to obtain the Free ECTS credits of
the first year. They can put the optional courses of the list in order of
preference.
Lessons held: 14th March – 11th June 2016
Optional courses‘ lessons will start
two weeks after the beginning of the second semester and will last 12 weeks.
There will be 4-5 hours of lesson a week on Wednesday and Friday afternoon.
Selection period duration:
Students can indicate their
preferences in the period between 26th February and 2nd
March.
Who can select the optional courses
The selection can be made by all
students enrolled to Bachelor of Science Engineering courses (DM 270/2004) if
the optional exams are provided for their first year.
Exceptions are:
- students
enrolled in the 2015/2016 academic year who failed the Mathematical Analysis I
examination (students in this situation will have to attend a remedial course
which replaces the optional course of the second semester).
- students
who already put the optional course in their study load during the previous
academic year and who didn’t ask for exoneration.
Students who, after an internal or external transfer or a shortening of the degree program, have been recognized an optional course don't have to select the optional course again.
Part-time
students with a study load with more than 30 credits, will not be able to select the optional course.
How to select optional courses:
Students make the selection from
their personal page of “Portale della didattica” by clicking on “Compila Piano
Carriera e Carico Didattico”.
There will be a list of exams that
students have to select in order of preference by using the arrows next to each
exam or by dragging each exam in the preferred position. In order to conclude
the procedure students will have to confirm their choice. Then a caption will appear “Scelte effettuate in
precedenza” (previously selections made). Remember that the preference order
can be changed by logging in the procedure again within the deadline for the
selection ( 2nd march 2016).
Rankings criteria and assignment of the optional courses:
After the exam session of the first
semester, when students have received the results of the exams, a merit ranking
will be made and optional courses will be assigned.
The ranking is made by the Area
Gestione Didattica and each student will be given a score calculated by
multiplying the number of credits of
Mathematical Analysis I, Chemistry and Computer Science by the mark obtained.
The preferred course will be
assigned following the order of the merit ranking until all seats in the classroom will be taken.
If too many students, with the same
merit rank, have chosen the same optional
course, the preferred course will be assigned basing on the number of exams
passed with a mark of 30/30 cum laude and subsequently seats will be assigned by a
computer draw procedure.
After all the assignments have been
made, if there are remaining seats for courses they could be assigned to those
who are over the deadline to make the selection.
To do so, students who are in
this situation can go to the Segreteria Didattica Ingegneria (1st floor of Cittadella
Politecnica) between 17th and 24th March 2016 in order to
check if there are remaining courses to select.
Specific cases:
The optional courses for students
who don’t have to attend the remedial course of Mathematical Analysis I, will
be assigned taking into account the
specific nature of the course and/or student:
- the course 01DDVLI Automotive
Evolution will be granted for students of Automotive Engineering who attend the
course entirely taught in English, provided that students put it as a first
choice
- students who are interested in the
“campus italo-cinese” have to follow the normal procedure described in the
first part but, if they are selected for this project, then the secretary will
replace the optional course with 06LOE Chinese Language.
- SDSS students will be granted 02FZU
Tecniche di comunicazione e di scrittura (videotaped), provided that they put
it as a first choice.
In
particular:
- SDSS
students from the Verres seat, 01QXS Laboratorio di sensori e sistemi di
attuazione will be granted if it is put as a first choice, because it will be developed
there.
- SDSS
students from the Biella seat, 01QZV Laboratorio tecnologico per l'industria
tessile will be granted if it is put as
a first choice, because it will be developed there.
- students enrolled to English degree
courses or that are attending the first year in English will be granted the
choice of one of the courses in English if they put it as a first choice.
- part-time students who have been assigned an optional course, have to pay
its credits within the deadline of 11th March 2016 otherwise, the
optional course will be removed from their study load.
Notice for students:
Once the assignment has ended, a
couple of days before the beginning of lessons, students will receive an email which invites
them to check which exam they have been assigned.
The email will also provide students with
information about class timetable and classroom location.
