Forfeiture

Updated on 2nd November 2016

Students enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree programme incur into automatic forfeiture in the following cases:

a) if they fail to pass, within two years, first-year compulsory exams, which are required for access to second-year courses. In this case they are considered to have forfeited and cannot continue their studies in the same academic career. If they intend to resume their studies and enrol in a Bachelor’s degree programme, they must sit and pass the admission test, and conveniently place themselves in the admission merit ranking list.

b) if they fail to pass any exam for three consecutive years, or they do not complete all the exams (excluding the Final Examination) in six years. In this case they are considered to have forfeited and cannot continue their studies in the same academic career. Forfeited students are allowed to enrol again in the same Bachelor’s degree programme (if this is still active) without having to sit the admission test.

The years of part-time enrolment count as 0.5 / year.

An instance to the Rector for deferment of the terms of forfeiture is permitted in the event of serious and certifiable reasons.

When forfeited students begin a new career, they may ask for the recognition of the credits earned during the forfeited degree programme.

The forfeiture rules provided for by article 12 of the Student Regulations are applicable to students enrolled at Politecnico starting from the 2016/2017 academic year. These forfeiture rules are also applicable to students enrolled at Politecnico before the 2016/2017 a.y., but in this case the number of years of enrolment is calculated starting from the 2016/2017 a.y., instead of the actual enrolment date.
