challengeS
Challenges are learning activities organized by the CLIK – Contamination Lab and Innovation Kitchen.
The CLIK is an experimental teaching lab promoted by the Interdepartmental Laboratory for Technology Transfer (LabTT) with the support of the Department of Control and Computer Engineering (DAUIN) and the Technology Transfer and Industrial Liaison Department (TRIN).
The Laboratory for Technology Transfer (LabTT) is a place for innovative teaching, a topic that is becoming of increasing importance to Politecnico di Torino. The CLIK proposes a new teaching approach to foster cross-pollination (Contamination Lab) among state-of-the-art research, students’ innovative ideas, different backgrounds, cutting-edge equipment, urban and territorial planning and businesses (Innovation Kitchen).
Businesses select and suggest issues that are important to them (technology or process-driven challenges) and students work and reflect on these problems during the project.
Challenges last 14 weeks and normally include 30 students from different backgrounds (Engineering, Architecture and Design). During this period, faculty members, mentors and professionals help students to examine the topic of the challenge and develop a solution from a technical and business point of view.
The working language of the Challenges is English.
How to apply
When a new Challenge becomes available during the academic year, you will find a specific link to submit your application on your personal page of the Teaching Portal – Online Services TAB.
You will also receive an e-mail with the topics of the Challenge and the deadlines for application.
Selection process
Students are selected based on their academic performance and cover letter. In their cover letter, students must explain why taking part in a Challenge can be relevant to their academic path.
The CLIK – Contamination Lab and Innovation Kitchen evaluates the applications received and selects successful applicants taking into consideration their profiles and the content of each Challenge.

How to include a Challenge in your PSP/APSP
You cannot directly include a Challenge in your APSP, even if Challenges are among your options for free choice credits. You need to choose a standard course and add it to your APSP. At the end of the selection process, if you have been chosen to take part in a Challenge, the Student Careers Unit will replace this course with the Challenge.
If a Challenge is not offered as an alternative to free choice credits, you can still apply and participate. In this case, the Challenge credits will be recorded in your transcript as credit overload (i.e. beyond the 120-credit threshold required for graduation). If you have already reached the limit for credit overload (132 credits), you can still add a Challenge as further additional credits.
We suggest you check the curriculum of your degree programme to verify if you are allowed to choose a Challenge in substitution for your free choice credits.
