Internship
Internships are offered to students as the first real chance to gain experience in the world of work. An internship gives you the opportunity to put into practice what you have learned during your studies and it will help you decide about your future professional career. Politecnico di Torino promotes internships and guarantees insurance coverage both for civil liability and occupational injuries.

Before starting an internship, you need to include it in your Personal Study Plan/Annual Personal Study Plan in the academic year in which you would like to do your internship.

The documents and general rules for internships are published at this LINK
Below you can find the specific guidelines for each degree programme.

GUIDELINES
Objective
The second-year internship, normally done abroad, is worth 18 CFU which correspond to a workload of 450 hours.
The internship, which will be done primarily in management/administrative settings, provides an opportunity to put into practice what you have learned during the previous semesters in a variety of professional fields, as well as to help you develop various skills, competencies and attitudes. The final internship report is typically used as the basis for your Master's thesis.
You can choose both national and international companies or institutions, as long as the topic of the internship is consistent with the content of the study course.
Activation and registration
The standard procedure of the Politecnico di Torino requires the intern to fill in a training project through the dedicated platform.
You can find the instructions about the platform that you need to use to upload your training project and to report the internship progress till its completion at
You need to find an academic tutor from among the tenured faculty of the study course; please wait for a confirmation from the tutor(s) before entering the relevant name in the training project.
At the end of the internship, you are expected to write a final report (of approximately 4-6 pages).
Extension of internship: the internship for the course of study provides the hours (450) and credits (18) indicated in the teaching load. You have the option (only at the start of the training project and not during the course of the project) to increase the number of hours of the internship duration by selecting one of the options visible in the section "EXPECTED HOURS" by filling out the training project.  In any case, it is not possible to exceed 900 hours (maximum number of hours varying according to the study course). Such a request must be agreed in advance with the company/professional firm/body and MUST be confirmed by the referring academic tutor(s) (whoever plays the role of contact person or tutor), who may reject a proposed training project. In that case it will be necessary to agree on a new internship proposal and fill out a new training project. If you see the approved training project, you will have confirmation that any additional package of hours will also have been acquired. Once the internship will be concluded with an approved extension, the following will be recorded: INTERNSHIP corresponding to the credits/hours stipulated by the study course (i.e. 18 credits/450 hours) plus the indication "CURRICULAR INTERNSHIP EXTENSION" with the additional credits/hours. These credits will be additional to the 120-credits provided by the master degree study course.
In addition to the type of internship described in the previous link, the degree programme allows two other types of internships:
a) Internship Agreement signed by the student with one of the partner universities: Universitat Internacional de Catalunya UIC - Athlone Institute of Technology AIT - IPAG Business School). In these cases the internships are activated and recognized by the host institutions;
b) Direct agreement between the student and the host company (only for work contract for which the degree programme will recognize the activity as internship) In both cases, the registration of the internship can take place only after submitting the following documents (in electronic format) to digep.didattica@polito.it  and to floriana.pellegrino@polito.it

  • training project (case a) or work contract (case b) signed by you and the host company or the internship activation document from the partner university;
  • insurance coverage during the internship or work period;
  • technical report (4-6 pages) describing the activity you have performed;
  • attendance sheet signed by you and the Company tutor for a total number of hours required (number of hours required ~25 x number of CFUs of the internship);
  • e-mail from the company tutor in which the end of the internship and the total number of hours are confirmed.
More information about the internship is available on the dedicated web page of the degree programme: https://www.polito.it/didattica/corsi-di-laurea-magistrale/ingegneria-della-produzione-industriale-e-dell-innovazione/tirociniotesi-di-laurea.
