INTERNSHIP
Internships are offered to students as the first real chance to gain experience in the world of work. An internship gives you the opportunity to put into practice what you have learned during your studies and it will help you decide about your future professional career. Politecnico di Torino promotes internships and guarantees insurance coverage both for civil liability and occupational injuries.

Before starting an internship, you need to include it in your Personal Study Plan/Annual Personal Study Plan in the academic year in which you would like to do your internship. Students wishing to carry out an internship must complete the training project from their personal page on the education portal, stage section.

Information on the online process to submit the training project and to track its progress until its conclusion, together with the general rules to undertake the internship, can be found at the following link > CURRICULAR INTERNSHIPS
University Regulations on curricular internships and practical evaluation internships can be found HERE

Additional information:
  • Both face-to-face and remote internships are permitted; however, you cannot undertake the internship completely remotely unless expressly stated in the course guidelines. The study course may therefore specify the maximum percentage of remote activity allowed. Unless indicated, the internship may be carried out in mixed mode without further constraints.
  • Working students with compulsory internship should contact the internship coordinator of the study course for more information on the procedure established to facilitate those in full-time employment related to the course in which they are enrolled.
Check the guidelines to apply for a curricular internship
Prerequisites
You can do your internship normally during the second semester of your third year, provided that you have earned at least 106 credits at a host organisation of their choice (in Piedmont, Italy or abroad) or at a host organisation from among those identified by the Internship Coordinators.
Please note: if you have already attended the third year, it is recommended that you have no more than five exams behind you in order to graduate (excluding the internship, but including English and free credits) by the time the spring session placement starts (i.e. at the end of the winter session); this means that you will have registered approximately 143 credits.

TO START THE INTERNSHIP*
  • identify the host organisation with which you want to set up the internship and ensure that it accepts and has an agreement with the Polytechnic.
  • choose the person who will serve as your academic tutor from among the teaching staff in the College of your study course and make sure they accept the role;
  • complete the training project from your personal page in the "Internships" section > "New Project".
*the procedures for choosing and assigning work placements and the bureaucratic steps to be followed before, during and after the internship will be explained by the Internship Coordinators at the beginning of the academic year to all those who have included the internship in their teaching load. These instructions are also uploaded on the teaching portal under ‘Internships’.
Completion and registration
For the conclusion and registration, refer to the information provided on the website in the page related to curricular Internships, in Italy or abroad, section "Developing and ending of the Internship".
The study course has defined the requirement for writing a brief report (approximately 3-6 pages) on the activity performed, to be uploaded in the system at the end of the internship. The report should contain: introduction, methodology, results (e.g., maps or data), conclusions/future developments, and bibliography.
The activity carried out during the internship constitutes the basis for the choice of the disciplinary theme to be explored in the thesis, which entails a commitment of a further 6 credits; the academic tutor of the internship will therefore also be the supervisor of the said thesis. It should be noted that the request for the final dissertation follows its own procedure, which is independent from that of the conclusion and registration of the internship. More information can be found in the Student Guide, section final examination.
