Description Context
Model-based systems engineering (MBSE) is a model-centric system engineering approach for representing complex systems, improving development time and cost efficiency in space systems design
Relies on computer-based tools and procedures to enhance the space systems design, development, and verification process by enabling a structured and digitally processable expression of information.
The implementation of the MBSE in a unique environment and the use of a unified language can be successfully combined with another systematic approach, Concurrent Engineering, a product development approach where tasks are performed simultaneously, and modern design tools are used to reduce time-to-market at a lower cost with higher quality.
To effectively apply the combined methodology, it is necessary to define a proper tool to integrate and visualize the elements of a space mission and the relationships between them, together with the need to standardize the architecture used during concurrent design at both mission and system levels.
Objectives
To improve the capability of the CubeSat Concurrent Design Facility (C2DF) of Politecnico di Torino, concerning the design of small space missions
To integrate MBSE for supporting the design and sizing of small space missions
Activities:
Definition of a set of tools for enabling the design and sizing of a space mission executed by small satellites.
To be integrated into the CEF of PoliTO. The beta version of the calculation sheets already exists, but they need major revision, tailoring to small scale satellite, and/or new implementation.
Explore the integration of MBSE in the CE workflow and develop a possible implementation
