Description This thesis explores the application of Artificial Intelligence, specifically Machine Learning techniques, to enhance the passive safety of roadside guardrails on both highways and regular road networks. Utilizing low-cost cameras mounted on vehicles traversing diverse road environments, the study aims to automatically identify guardrail types. This includes categorizing them based on design specifications and ensuring adherence to existing regulatory frameworks and safety standards. The proposed method also investigates the assessment of the physical condition of guardrails. By analyzing images or videos captured by onboard cameras, the research aims to detect potential vulnerabilities and weaknesses, particularly those resulting from vehicular impacts, and other signs of deformation or damage.
