Description The use of insects as a new sostainable source of macronutrients (proteins and lipids in particular) is becoming very popular. Insects can feed on many types of organic matrixes, including agri-food residues, and their farming has a low environmental impact.
The aim of this project is the design and optimization of processes for the extraction of macronutrients from insects. We will focus on evaporation, solvent extraction (including green alternative such as supercritical CO2) and mechanical press.
The work will be in part experimental, to collect the kinetic data necessary for the process plant design, and in part CFD modelling.
