Description The research focuses on the development of (hybrid) nanomaterials and the study of their functional properties to develop fundamentally new mechanisms to convert and store the energy of the Sun through the direct light-driven charging of a supercapacitor. Solar energy is not constant and hence an unstable power source owing to its intermittent nature. Therefore, storage of solar energy is an important issue. Our new technology combines solar energy conversion and storage into one, thus delivering the opportunity to exploit the benefits of solar energy conversion also beyond the availability of sunlight.
Notes The research will be carried out between the DISAT department and the Center for Sustainable Future Technologies of the Italian Institute of Technology
