Description Motivation:
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are drones with autonomous control, and their use in critical environments it's rapidly increasing.
While managing the payloads of these systems, high dependability, low power, and computational capabilities are concurrently required.
Advanced FPGA-based processors appear to be good candidate for these applications.
Goals:
The thesis aims at the development of a FPGA-based processor to be used as on-board payload controller of an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, devoted at rescuing people lost in critical environments and conditions (e.g., mountains).
The system has to gather data from different kind of sensors, elaborate them and communicate with the ground-station system.
Learning Outcomes:
During this thesis the candidate will learn how to design FPGA-based processors, manage different kind of data, and guarantee the required level of dependability.
Required skills Programming Languages: C, VHDL
Digital System design methodologies
Notes The thesis will be developed in cooperation with: CSP, ACES, and Vodafone.
Number of required Students: 1
Deadline 31/12/2012
