Description Motivation:
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are drones with autonomous control, and their use in critical environments it's rapidly increasing.
While managing the payloads of these systems, high dependability, low power, and computational capabilities are concurrently required.
Advanced FPGA-based systems appear to be good candidate for these applications.
Goals:
The thesis aims at the development of a FPGA-based hardware accelerator to be used as on-board payload controller of an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, devoted at traffic control and security inspections of cars.
The system has to recognize the characters of the cars’ plates by mean of an OCR algorithm accelerated in FPGA.
Learning Outcomes:
During this thesis the candidate will learn how to design FPGA-based systems, manage different kind of data, and guarantee the required level of dependability.
Required skills Programming Languages: C, VHDL, Matlab
Digital System design methodologies
Notes The thesis will be developed in cooperation with: Eurix
Number of required Students: 1
Deadline 30/11/2013
